My name is Kayla, and I'm a Métis storyteller born in the prairies but raised by the sea.
As a part of reclaiming my roots, I have found ways to reconnect with my ancestors through food.
Oven-baked bannock, bison, and berries were once a staple for the Métis people. When I first started ordering from Legends, I was stoked to see that they offered ingredients for me to make some of the family staples.
One of my favourite weekend comfort breakfasts is bannock benny. Once you mix together the ingredients that create the bannock, I like to top it with smoked salmon, berries, and sage. Often, I pair it with whatever fresh greens are in the shop. Occasionally, I like to celebrate by searing up some of the Hill's Legacy Meats Bison Blueberry Sausage and toasting with a glass of Loop Morning Glory.
